Célio Olimpio, 50 years old, is one of a family of eleven artist brothers originating from the city of Januária located in the north of Minas Gerais, and worked in the areas of radio and theatre until he discovered another skill: arts.
According to businesswoman and partner Leia Castilho, “he is considered the only one in the whole world to have a specific technique to produce bedsides, wall panels, floors, pool bottoms, cachepots, table tops, pots, counter tops and counters using glass and fire as base materials.
There are many traces of his work. According to Célio, these are exclusive pieces. The end result is always different in each of them. A job that could take between one day to a week to complete. His decade-old technique has become a reference in Europe, the United States and now in Brazil.
“As I improve the technique, I feel that I have more control over the fire and this causes an indescribable pleasure, because it is the one that predominates and defines the forms of each work in my craft. The exclusivity of each piece gives absolute power over the outcome. Sometimes the result is unusual, and the painting surpasses the expectations resulting in an outstanding piece”, says the artist.
Célio currently lives in Lisbon, Portugal. Lived a while in New York City, but often go to Brazil on business, where he owns a branch of his company L&C Glass System with Leia Castilho in the city of Belo Horizonte.
He considers all of his pieces special. Among his clients, he highlights the work done for the actress Whoopi Goldberg in Long Island, New York, as well as items for several restaurants frequented by celebrities such as the Bar Bulevar Dreams, where American actress, singer and model Marilyn Monroe and singer Frank Sinatra met on a late afternoon in the late 1960s.
Célio’s works are available at Belíssimo Banheiros, a Belo Horizonte company that set an industry benchmark in refinement. From the 19th to 26th of September, his works were a part of the “Dmais Design” exhibition, a space for decorators and design from all over the country held in the Minas Gerais capital.
His pieces were also featured in the “Casa Cor Minas” exhibition, running from 30 August to 6 October. His work in Otacilio Bar Gastrô was featured in the cover of the Casa Cor 2015 Magazine.
